Given the chaos that became evident in the transportation sector in 2006, CNI raises the issue on how to attract investments to improve the sector's infrastructure. Associated to the reduction of public resources, the crisis affected the efficiency of the economy and the performance of companies, as well as the well-being of the population at large.
The document identifies the main problems in the sector at federal level and highlights the exhaustion of the centralized and State-run model that has been applied in Brazil over the last few decades. In addition to defending the idea of transferring the maintenance of the transportation system to the private sector - though it would continue to be inspected by public bodies - it proposes an institutional restructuring to reduce costs and to adapt the productive sector to international quality and competition standards.
