Against the background of the 2002 presidential elections, when the markets were fearful of the supposed risks represented by a left-wing government, CNI carried out a wide-reaching survey to identify the main themes and priorities for industry in the following years.
The resulting document portrayed the country that the entire sector wished for as well as an agenda for competitiveness that would be needed to increase the capacity of Brazilian industry. The proposals are objective and offer solutions to overcome barriers to growth, setting out, in details, an industrial policy on three axes: foreign trade, innovation and national integration.
The document was presented to presidential candidates Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, José Serra, Anthony Garotinho, Ciro Gomes, José Maria de Almeida and Rui Costa Pimenta. The presentation ceremony took place in May 2002 at a meeting promoted by Fernando Bezerra, president of CNI at that time.
